Dragon Eyes

RHMS Grade 5 students have been working with modeling material to create 3D projects in art class.  Their theme is “Dragon Eyes''.  In this unit, they students started with the basics of sculpting with clay.  They began by sketching out ideas, starting with a base shape to design and then adding additional details that extend beyond the border.

The students were able to get creative and designed their own eyeballs.  They began with a glass domed gem and embedded their glass gem into a clay slab base. They then covered it with coil ropes for overlapping eyelids to hold the glass in place.  Once completed, the students worked at building scales and other details, creating a relief sculpture with low, medium and high depths.
