Spoken widely around the world, French is one of Canada’s two official languages. The ability to communicate in French and appreciate French culture is an important component of a well-rounded education.
French is introduced to our Montessori students. Through physical activities, stories, songs, and games conducted almost entirely in French, children develop listening comprehension skills and an awareness of other languages. The Accelerative Integrated Methodology (AIM) is used as early as Montessori preschool. In this language learning program students use drama, music, and gestures to contextualize vocabulary. The AIM program is, by far, the most comprehensive and effective approach to language teaching and learning utilized in the world today. Building these linguistic foundations at the Montessori level accelerates the learning process and creates the opportunity for students to achieve excellent levels of oral and written fluency in their Elementary years.

The vocabulary practiced includes numbers, colours, the date, the seasons, and the weather. The children also participate in pre-reading and word recognition activities. Students are exposed to a range of motivating activities that help them develop confidence and competence in French as they progress through the Montessori program.
