RHMS Montessori students kicked off the Chinese New Year celebration by wearing their traditional clothing to school. This special festival in the Chinese calendar is sometimes called Spring Festival or Lunar New Year. The celebration lasts 15 days and it is a time to feast and spend time with family members.
The children learned about the Dragon parade and red pocket exchanges. They tried calligraphy, practiced writing the Chinese character for “spring” and had fun making dragon hat’s with whiskers to welcome in the new year.
It is important to learn the different ways in which other cultures celebrate. Happy Year of the Dragon!
